A gene that makes a protein involved in forming channels through which proteins and other molecules move inside cells. Mutations (changes) in the TMC6 gene have been found in an inherited condition called epidermodysplasia verruciformis. People with this condition have a high risk of developing chronic infections with certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV) and skin cancer at an early age.
