Definition

A type of cancer that is more likely to occur in people who are infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) than in people who are not infected. Non-AIDS-defining cancers include Hodgkin lymphoma and cancers of the mouth, throat, liver, lung, and anus. In addition to HIV infection, other factors, such as older age, infection with other viruses (such as HPV or hepatitis B or C virus), and heavy alcohol or tobacco use, may increase the risk of developing a non-AIDS-defining cancer.
