dibotermin alfa
Definition
A recombinant form of human bone morphogenetic protein 2 (rhBMP-2), with potential bone remodeling and osteoinductive activities. Following administration, dibotermin alfa induces signaling cascades, which leads to osteoblast differentiation, enhancement of bone repair and formation, and improvement of re-vascularization. This promotes bone healing. BMP-2, a protein belonging to the transforming growth factor beta (TGFb) superfamily of proteins, plays a key role in bone and cartilage formation.
